      Peugeot 1934 : 601

      Peugeot 1934 : 601

With the 601, Peugeot returned to the six-cylinder engine, a prestigious engine that had been abandoned after the withdrawal of the 12 SIX. Presented in 1934, this top of the range vehicle was powered by a side valve engine with a displacement of 2.1 litres, developing 60 hp. Like all Peugeots from the 201 C onwards, the 601 had a front axle with independent suspension. The superb bodies of the coupé, cabriolet and Eclipse versions would be the highlight of the “concours d’élégance”. Withdrawn in 1936 after a mitigated success, the 601 would be the last six-cylinder Peugeot until the launch four decades later of the 604.
